About Jason Hemmens

Bio

Jason Hemmens is a dynamic, award-winning saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and composer whose soulful sound and electrifying stage presence light up rooms from intimate jazz clubs to iconic international festivals.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts (Roxbury) and raised in Waldo, Maine, Jason discovered his passion for music early. He started writing songs and performing at age 10, co-founding a rap duo, singing in choirs, and jamming with local blues legends. At 15, he picked up the harmonica, followed swiftly by the saxophone, igniting a lifelong fire for melody and groove.
Hemmens honed his craft in the vibrant jazz scene of New Orleans. As a graduate of the prestigious Jazz Studies Program at the University of New Orleans, he studied under legends like Ellis Marsalis, Harold Battiste, and Grammy-winning composer Terence Blanchard. By day he absorbed elite training; by night he performed on Bourbon Street, building the versatility and fire that define his style today.

A true multi-instrumentalist fluent on saxophone (alto, tenor, soprano), harmonica, piano, bass, and vocals, Jason has shared stages with icons including Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Tevin Campbell, and members of Guns N’ Roses and Poison. His performances span the U.S.—including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival—and the globe, notably the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In 2026, Jason continues to captivate audiences with his debut saxophone album in the works. He has already released two powerful singles: “Palisades”—a wordless ode to resilience and renewal inspired by the Palisades fires—and the soulful “Blossom.” These tracks showcase his signature blend of smooth jazz, emotional depth, and modern grooves.

Now based in Los Angeles, Jason brings his talents to Sax on Sunset, his exciting new weekly Wednesday residency at the stunning Sunset Rooftop (6099 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028). Every week, audiences experience an unforgettable evening of live saxophone mastery:
